Emma’s Party: A Novel

For those who know me, have read the synopsis of me, or have somehow figured this out, I am currently writing a novel. It is growing day by day (when I am not busy with school, volleyball, or life overall), and even I am amazed at it’s progress.

What is even more exciting is that fact that I have been able to keep up with it. I love writing everyday and finding out more and more about the characters.

I got the idea when we had to write a short story in grade nine English class. I fell in love with the story and saw so much potential in it that after it was handed back to me, I decided I would work on it some more. (I got 100% on it, if anybody was wondering). I also decided that it would not just be in a single character’s first person view; it would be in the three main girl’s point of view. Every chapter would alternate between them, that way we would understand all of the characters, and the reasoning behind all of them.

So far it has been so good, and I am very happy with it…and everybody who has read it has liked  it too.

What has been the most exciting has been trying to find possible publishers…and having feedback and possible ‘yes’es come back. That is one of the most rewarding feelings you can have; the fact that you have worked and put effort into something and you just might get something amazing out of it.

The strangest thing about this novel is perhaps the fact that I tend to really, really dislike YA novels that focus on nothing but drama in the world of teenagers, but, I suppose you write what you can identify with.

I even have a bit of a cover worked out…you can see it below.

Here is a bit of the back blurb that I have written, that sums it up pretty well.

Welcome to small town Three Hills in rural Alberta, pretty much a boring town where very little happens.  That changes dramatically when a new girl with a deep past and  and even deeper secrets moves into the small town, stirring up  controversies along with concealed agony and discord.  This tears the entire teen population apart at the seems, when  nothing like this has ever happened before.
A novel that is breath-taking and mysterious, EMMA’S PARTY  will suck you in, forcing you to ponder what could happen when  your world is turned up-side down by one girl, and the power of  friendship.

This is the prologue for my story, which introduces what will eventually happen in the novel…not that I will give that away.

My throat is burning, and I cannot stop…not until I find her, not until I see that we are okay, that we could get through this, that we are both fine and can laugh later. That this is nothing but a bump in the road. Nothing we can’t get though. I choke and I choke, struggling for breath. It’s too much, and I am dragged under.

It’s dark. I struggle against it, straining as hard as I can to lift the oppressing darkness that stifles me like a heavy blanket. I fight. But this is a fight that I won’t be able to win. I find myself floating, embraced by the dark.

So that is my current passion, among volleyball, friends, family, summer and other things like that. But that is not what this page is for. For that, see What I Am About.

Or, because I have been fooling around with covers, this one is also possible…

Cover II

And, another one…

Emma's Party Cover IV

Another option…

And yet another, the more recent one…

I’ve written a couple of books myself and find them to be a great source of escapism. I hope you decide to publish yours on this blog. Would be interesting to read, sounds good.
